Titane directed by Julie Ducournau is the most exuberant winner of the Palme d’Or in a decade and the sort of film that makes you happy movies exist. The decidedly weird story of Alexia, a woman with a metal plate in her head from a violent childhood car accident, unfolds with allusions to Cronenberg’s classic film Crash and the supernatural. What starts as a strange spiral of mayhem and mistaken identity turns into an oddly precious story of fatherly love conquering the most unusual of odds.
